Likely the best crowdfunded isometric western RPG that's named after a Down song

agree with GrayMouser. excellent world-building, really fun combat, but the plot itself is just kind of there. it feels very scant for a game i put like 95 hours into.

I get the loot concerns but I’m not sure how you play this game and don’t remember the plot. Thought the payoff of the flashbacks with Thaos was really superb.

This and Tyranny are still the best games of the classic RPG revival (haven't played BG3 yet though, but if the writing is on the same level as in Divinity I doubt it will change my mind)

I'd say the title belongs to Disco Elysium hands down, but I absolutely love Pillars and it's a shame that it isn't liked more on this site.

Oh yeah, Disco Elysium is probably the best game I've ever played (very original opinion, I know) but I think it's a little too different to belong in the classic RPG (revival) genre.

Very good game, but a word of advice: Do not play this if you don't like Chris Avellone's writing.

Actually Avellone's input is pretty limited as far as I'm aware. I think his involvement was mostly related to Durance and the Grieving Mother. The narrative lead was Eric Fenstermaker, and the game was based on a story he and George Ziets co-wrote (maybe, partly, inspired by material from The Black Hound).

That said, I think Ziets has a pretty similar style to Avellone. He was also the creative lead for Mask of the Betrayer for example, which for years was the closest thing out there to Planescape: Torment.
