The Forgotten Sanctuary is one of PoE 2 Deadfire's best adventures, and I would go as far to say that it is the game's best adventure. It is essential content, totally satisfying from a narrative standpoint as well as a difficulty/mechanical standpoint. Unlike the first piece of Deadfire DLC, Beast of Winter, the characters are paired down and distinct in their motives and personalities, enhancing the memorability of the adventure beyond set pieces and specific encounters or gear rewards.
But there is plenty of that which makes this adventure memorable, too. This is a consistently challenging, late-game piece of content thanks to interesting mob compositions and level design. There are enemies in this dungeon that force the player to create some concept of a priority target system, where this was not the case (in my experience) for much of the content in the rest of the game. Because of this, success was satisfying and failure was intriguing, I always knew there was something I could be doing differently besides getting stat increases.
But there is plenty in this adventure to make use of your high level stats, too. Lots of alternatives to eek out with your social skills, or forcefully take with your PC's high strength skill. The quest design was at times reactive, but there were always a few ways to tackle a specific task. It depends on if there will ever be a sequel to Deadfire, but some of your decisions in this adventure could make for some big, big changes later in the history of Eora. Will the world ever know what happened down there, in the shrieking depths of The Forgotten Sanctuary? I hope so, because it was really worth doing in my belief!
