A second bout of the mysterious "Sand Plague" has broken out in a small town built on the Russian steppe. After bringing the town to its knees in its original bout 5 years previously and having already wiped out several distinctive towns in northern Russia, the death of the town's leader Simon Kain causes the town to enter a period of political and social panic and turmoil while the plague continues to spread.

Three playable characters - Daniil Dankovsky: a Bachelor of Thanatology, Artemy Burakh: a returning member of the town's cult of butchers and Clara: a girl who mysteriously appears in an open grave in the town's cemetery - all appear in the town at the beginning of the plague's outbreak and all serve to try and survive in the town, cure the plague and help restore order to the town independently of each other over a period of 12 in-game days.

Title
Imagine a mix of Survival horror, Tarkovsky, nonsensical or existential drivel, all kinds of messed up stuff on a bleak austere atmosphere. It's kinda like being stuck in one of those unexplainable nightmares before waking up suddenly all covered in sweat and you spend the rest of the day reminiscing about it. Not much of a review I know, let's just say it's an unique experience you have to try for yourself.

    the time constraints make not want to play it tbh. I really hate that I can't explore the way I want because the game punishes strolling so much

      It's really not that bad, you can end up completing most days before it's even close to moving on to the next one. Plus you'll end up exploring everywhere anyway since you have 12 days to do that.

    So far I can't play through more than a day or so at a time without feeling physically exhausted, but I have a feeling that's exactly the point.

      Just finished the Bachelor route and I'm falling in love with this. This game is making me feel the same way as an adult that Majora's Mask made me feel as a kid.

    AWWWW Avery_Island 's review and account is gone. Someone with amazing taste and their write-up of Pathologic was honestly my favorite on this site and was what convinced me to play this masterpiece. What a fucking travesty.

    yeah avery_island's presence on the site was really really special, and their review led me to pick up this game back when it had like 50 ratings. have still made embarrassingly little progress in it but it has still left a major impression on me. currently fighting very hard against the urge to drop the pile of other games im playing rn to dive headlong back into this, but i feel like its a losing battle lol
