Paperboy

If the aim of Paperboy is to introduce a young person to the tedium and frustrations of a thankless dead end job then it could be described as being a successful release. Of course that is not the point of the game, and what it offers the player is the type of low reward headache inducing aggravation shared by precious few other titles. Even if you can be bothered to stick it out to the finish the only emotion that presents itself is "thank Christ that's over". Job satisfaction? Hardly.

This is classic arcade, somewhat fair, you throw newspapers at subscription houses and ignore the black ones(or vandalise them) It's easy to complete a week(that's how long the game lasts), by just sticking to one house in particular, but till you get there you'll have to learn how to dodge enemies and obstacles, which is the hard part, and some of them come unwaranted(like werewolves who attack behind buildings, which is bad mojo).

The original arcade game was controlled with a special analog bike handlebar. On MAME, Paperboy is best played and responsive with a mouse. (2.5)

The ZX Spectrum version is limited, much slower, and yet because of it it accidentally makes it much easier to play and easier to focus. I think it's worth a shot. Also has "SOD" in the high score names. (2.5)

One of the most famous early NES titles, but unfortunatly not a very good game. Play as a paperboy and deliver your newspapers every morning to the subscribers. Make sure to watch your aim so you dont break any windows, and avoid hazards in your way. Its relatively easy to hit the door with the newspaper, but its really hard to dodge the hazards due to the random pattern of enemies and weird hitboxes. Having a short visual range doesnt help either. If you fail a door, they cancel their subscription, so each day you have less targets to hit but they become more important. Its a very repetitive game after a short while though. Its a really hard game to beat though. The idea is somewhat novel, but i cant help it got famous because there wasnt much else out there at the time.
