Dodging left and right
Great metroidvania.

The visuals and story are its weak point, they arent bad just average. It uses a color scheme of orange and blue, and a lot of blacks for neutral objects. The high contrast does help with the more intense sections in the gameplay, but its not all that pleasing visually.

However the gameplay is simply top notch. It has a system similar to Ikaruga, in which you can switch between blue and orange color to become immune to projectiles of the same color. The game increases in difficulty evenly from beginning to end, and towards the middle of the game i started pulling out some really cool stunts. Its the sort of game that really teaches you to play it well. Lots of very interesting levels, and quite a few secret areas as well. At times it almost feels like a bullet hell shoot em up due to how many missiles are on screen. The final boss took me 2 hours to beat, but i never felt it was unfair at any point.

The metroidvania part of the game is a bit limited, as the game itself uses a compass to point you to the next story objective.

Ori and the Blind Forest is still the high mark for this genre for me, but this one isnt too far behind.

    This low rating is insane. I'm playing this now and this is one of the best metroidvania platformers I've played in a long time.

    The only thing that really brings this down is the inability to see the overall map. I'd love to backtrack and find all the items I missed due to lacking abilities, but you aren't able to check and pretty much have to replay the whole game to find the ones you missed. Pretty damn annoying and I really don't feel like doing that.

    Also holy cow is the last boss intense. Took me a while to beat.
