One Step from Eden is a strange premise, combining deck building roguelite gameplay like Slay the Spire, with the action combat of something like mega man battle network (which i have never played but from watching footage its nearly identical). You may wonder if juggling the two aspects is a bit too much, and thats right, the game has a steep learning curve because of this, and thats what will turn off many people from the start.
The game is quality from the first time you look at it, from the gorgeous pixel art animations and huge amount of depth between all the characters, artifacts and cards. Its gameplay mechanics weave a lot of the action gameplay though, as you struggle to guess which spell you have to cast amidst dodging enemy projectiles. It really gets bullet hell at its later stages, and thats why the deckbuilding is so important, as its a must to clear battles as fast as you can. A well optimize build can effectively clear random encounters in seconds, but then there is the issue that crowd control decks dont fair so well against the bullet spongey nature of the bosses. This is all by design though, and the game will make you a much better deck builder, learning the importance of removing fat from the deck and learning clever synergies.
The soundtrack is enjoyable, though its electronic tracks arent more than just enjoyable.
Overal this is a seriously addictive roguelite, with hudreds of highly replayable runs between all characters and challenge runs. Its not a game you can relax to though, unlike the slower paced Slay the Spire and Monster Train.
