Octodad: Dadliest Catch

Octodad: Dadliest catch is a really funny game if you can get behind this sort of physics comedy games. The premise, the gameplay and the animations all add up to create a game that is all sorts of fun. I dont think i remember a game where i laughed so much while playing. Basically you are an octopus in disguise, and you have to aid your human family while at the same time keeping your secret safe. The controls are made to be hard to control on purpose, but at the same time the game facilitates some of the tasks so that the game doesnt get frustrating. You control each individual member with a different button, so thinks can be really confusing throughout the whole game.

Its very short, just enough time to explore its mechanics well without wearing out its gimmick. The story is also very feel good. Overal its an unique game thats definitly worth playing.

This game cares about one thing: fun. It’s a wild, strange, confusing, and often frustrating ride, but Octodad: Dadliest Catch is probably one of the more unique gaming experiences we had in 2014. The premise itself is more than enough to engage me, but the game’s humour more often than not comes out of player interaction – while that may seem like an obvious point, I want to expand on that note. The more you play the game and grapple with the controls, the more fun and the funnier it gets. It's a game that gives back what you put into it. There's no passive playthrough here, your enjoyment of the game depends on how much you want to enjoy it. It's got plenty of humour, but the missions are varied enough and there is enough of a narrative here to keep it above another 'meme' game. The art style also has a nice LucasArts-style aesthetic to it that I really enjoy.
