The Game Is Fun! But Let's Not Kid Ourselves...
Bowling is the obvious standout being a tried and true formula that's been working since 2006 with Wii Sports, Soccer involves a layer a strategy not apparent in the other games, Volleyball is a solid exercise in teamwork and skill, Badminton will test your timing (as will Tennis), and Chambara... eh I could care less about this one - clearly the worst sport present. Throw in some online multiplayer and that's it. That's the game!

There's certainly a ton of fun to be had in the same way Wii Sports was fun all those years ago, and now your friends and family don't even have to be in your living room to play with you! But let's face the facts:: this game is not complete because Wii Sports Resort exists. I played a lot of Wii Sports Resort leading up to the release of Switch Sports and that game holds up very well as does the Wii motion plus which is surprisingly precise. Where Wii Sports Resort excels is in it's quantity AND quality. 12 different sports with most of them having 2 or 3 (or 4?) sub games each. Now look at Switch Sports. See the problem?

But of course! No need to worry! Nintendo said it would be releasing a free update for Golf months after it's launch. The implication that Nintendo will continue to drip feed content into this game will surely keep it alive. Ha - okay. Maybe one day Switch Sports will reach the heights of Wii Sports Resort. It took Wii Sports Resort exactly one day to do what Switch Sports MIGHT do in, what, a couple years?

This "release now, fix later" approach Nintendo has been toying with during the Switch era sets a bad precedent.

(Edit) Golf has been added and considering I’m a sucker for golf video games, it’s the best game here. Nailing that drive, landing your approach shot just right, and sinking the ball are all immensely satisfying to pull off. Regardless, the reality of the situation is the “golf update” is too little, too late. An excuse to lure the most dedicated players back in for perhaps a day or two - maybe a week as a best case scenario. The game was dead on arrival, and golf is NOT going to act as it’s saving grace all by itself.

    Yeah played the demo, not a big fan of the controls. They're not awful, but the Joycons are soooo bad. They have no weight to them and feel weird swinging around.

    yeah this is great. well designed and all the games play super nice. surprisingly, online works flawless and without lag. they somehow did it. only downside is it's kind of light on content. golf should have been in there from the start. we'll see.
