Title
Sometimes I just want a game that captures the feeling of driving.

By that I don’t mean a simulation. A simulation has details and details just get in the way - I don’t need to see signs, landscapes, or other cars on the road. I just want to experience the feeling of motion and the sense of freedom that goes along with it.

A gear shift, a gas pedal, and hashes on the road. That is Night Driver, and Night Driver is a beautiful thing.

Even today this is a super intense racing game: You actually need to switch gears to go faster but also lose a degree of control due to the slippery road, and keeping yourself on the track is a decent challenge, which is only made cooler by the first person view. Overlooked early game.

Play it on MAME with a mouse or arcade wheel.

Asleep at the Wheel
A ridiculously easy game that presents no sense of accomplishment whatsoever. The time limit, at least, provides some anticipation to that glorious moment when you can go elsewhere and put a coin into something a lot more fun than this. A game you could play in your sleep, which probably just as well.
