Mortal Kombat Trilogy features the same gameplay and story as Mortal Kombat 3, but adds characters and stages from the other three arcade games, including Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. Some completely new characters were also introduced.
This was met with mixed and often negative reaction on release, I think both because the series had become a little tired and because Trilogy was one of the first games to hit the N64 and did next to nothing to show off the console's power. Instead, it looks like a 16-bit game, much of the sound is compressed to hell, and the game was butchered in some aspects due to cartridge storage limitations.
It does at least play as well as you'd expect Mortal Kombat to, even on the N64 controller, and controls and handles well even today. It is incredibly difficult even on Very Easy, though, which is disappointing as it encourages you to exploit characters and spam cheap moves. Perhaps I just suck.

I don't remember what exactly, but I remember something about the combat not being as satisfying as previous MK's and if I remember correctly some of the MK1 character models like Goro caused a delay while fighting to make them seem as fast as the newer character models. It's like they just mixed everything together but didn't try to make it gel well. Even with that, the rating is probably lower than it should be,
it's a slog to play, at least the N64 version. It feels unresponsive and you can tell that audio and graphic compromises were taken to fit all the fighters in a single game.
N64 version was notoriously worse than PS1. Still clunky. I longed for this game for years as a kid because of all the characters and maps but it was kinda shite.
