Reverie Under the Moonlight is surprisingly concise experience that can be completed in a handful of sessions, but I wouldn't say that it's lacking in content. The environments and boss fights that are in the game are beautiful and have clearly been crafted with a lot of love, and the game manages to have a surprisingly wide array of different aesthetics and enemies packed into its runtime. The controls are tight, the animations and sound effects are crisp and smooth, and the enemies have well telegraphed attacks and movements.
Unlike most Metroidvania style games, it doesn't require that much backtracking. This might make it more accessible to somebody who is usually turned off by that aspect of the genre. However, there is stuff hidden in every area of the game if you are curious enough to go back in explore, which has also made the game fairly replayable for me. The structure of the game reminds me of Megaman ZX, which was also a traditional side scroller adapted to the format of a metroidvania. Every time I play the game I find a new secret tucked away somewhere on the map. There is a shocking amount of detail and content packed into this game for those who care to look for it, and those who don't will still find a pleasantly challenging set of levels and boss fights that can be cleared without a huge time investment.
A surprisingly solid triumph for a series that has otherwise flown under most people's radars. It might not blow anyone's mind or change the face of game design, but its consistent quality and atmosphere make it well worth the price of admission.

Simply one of the best platformers I've ever played. Grueling, witty, and dark; this series proves itself with this title that deserves it's cult status and possibly should be regarded as much more. If you don't own this it is most certainly worth the asking price.

And the award for Metroidvania of the year goes to Momodora IV! Though i may like more Salt and Sanctuary due to its combat and atmosphere, there is no denying that Momodora is the better metroidvania out of the two due to its level design and tight gameplay.
.It starts off very hard, but as you learn the game and get stronger it gradually becomes easier, to the point where i beat the last boss on the first time. I like how the combat system has enough depth through the use of simple combos and doges than the average game of its type. I like the pixelated visuals, even if they are simple they have a lot of charm. Great controls, good difficulty, really cool level design with lots of secrets to find. The music is just okayish, and the game is short, it took me less than 4 hours to beat it and i searched every corner of it. Still, i liked it a lot, and its an easy recommendation for anyone who likes this genre.

Was definitely fooled by the cutesy visuals as this game is surprisingly soulslike: every enemy does so much damage right out of the gate, lots of instakill traps, trolling (like the chest that just curses you upon opening it), etc. Great game though and amazing atmosphere. Just wish it was longer!
The aesthetic and atmosphere is amazing. It's such a weirdly compelling combination of cute and dark/creepy. Despite being really short, this has had a way bigger impact on me than most games.
