The way an open world old-timey Roleplaying game was supposed to be made
Might and Magic VI is often seen as the height of the Might and Magic franchise (before the Heroes spin-off became more popular than the main series), a series of roleplaying games where you roll a party of adventurers and guide them through an open fantasy world, reminiscent of Tabletop-RPGs and Pen and Paper RPGs.
In order to both recreate the feeling of a Tabletop-RPG while also still being an enjoyable and lasting singleplayer experience, Might and Magic VI nails its formula.
The character customization and creation with different classes, many weirdly realistic looking faces (with many different expressions and emotions), and the different abilities you can learn and level up (and of course the standard stats), do make for nice party creation possibilities.
The world itself feels fairly alive, with many NPCs walking the streets of towns, that can be talked to and have their own name, profession, and can even be recruited as guests into your party to give you bonuses or just keep you company.
There's also a ton of interesting quests that send you all over the world, and they aren't hard to find either.
The main story is nothing too out-of-this-world (or is it), but it serves its purpose to provide you a long-term goal while exploring all the locations this game has to offer. And this game is fairly big with a ton of content. It has a fairly big open world, with a ton of dungeons, some of which are fairly massive and take hours to complete.
The controls were pretty good for its time, but for a newer player, controlling your characters and the battles might be overwhelming and confusing, but the great part about the controls is, that when you got the controls down, controlling the game is fast and satisfying (similar to old Tomb Raider games).
I mentioned a lot of the individual parts now, but what everything boils down to, is that the entire package of this game just feels very cohesive and engaging. I didn't feel like anything was too out of place, or any mechanic that didn't quite fit in.
The only notable minus is that towards the end of the game, the dungeon design gets a bit lazy in some places and they just throw massive amounts of enemies at you at once, over and over.
All in all, if you are looking for a great openworld roleplaying game, Might and Magic VI delivers.
