The first Metal Gear game feels a bit awkward, its sort of a mix between stealth and action and you are in one base for a majority of the game and the goal is to progress and collect higher level carts until you are able to make it into the Final are and defeat the boss. The story is pretty minimal and not as deep as the later games, the gameplay gets awfully repetitive, and there are some really frustrating parts where you can get stuck and not know what to do or where to go. I mean for a game with such a high bar as the Metal Gear franchise, this definitely is probably the weakest game in the entire series and the sequel would make huge improvements.

Linking When you mention an album, artist, film, game, label, etc - it's recommended to link to the item the first time you mention it. Doing so will make it easier to search for your post and give it more visibility. To link an item, use the search box above, or find the shortcut that appears on the page that you want to link. You can customize the link name of shortcuts by using the format [Artist12345,Custom Name].

As a game concept this was pretty bloody flawless, spectacular game where you had to sneak around enemies and where you could wisely use every single item under the sun, even if it still had moments of haywire logic(at least the radiocom provided its own share of answers). Only thing that's annoying is the use of numbered keycards which gets seriously grating, but one of the most fantastic adventure games of the late 80s if I've ever seen one.
Ignore the NES port as Kojima did not have any involvement in it.

damn, you know that part in MGS where you need to backtrack to get a sniper to beat Sniper Wolf? imagine if the entire game was that except you're not told where to backtrack, the path to the item is much longer and along the way there are several detours which are as likely to contain the sniper.
it's really jarring how much better the msx version is. I've been playing that piece of shit NES port my whole life, never knew the game could actually be awesome
watched this video and tbh, I'm kinda split. There are big changes, but they're also so incredibly similar, iunno. don't think I'm for or against the split.
