Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection is a video game compilation released exclusively for the PlayStation 3. It includes all of the mainline Metal Gear games directed and designed by Hideo Kojima that were released from 1987 through 2012. Bonus content include motion comic adaptations of the Metal Gear Solid graphic novels illustrated by Ashley Wood and a 100-page booklet that catalogs numerous promotional posters, brochures and advertisement related to the games in the compilation.
I suppose if you haven't played these games, buy this collection. However, the packaging is much below par for a series of this magnitude. If you're an actual fan, there's no reason to buy these games again, like I did.
I have a feeling that if Kojima actually, truly intended to create a "Legacy Collection" it would include original box-art and an actual refurbishing or remastering of these games. I find the chronological "Front-Face" screen of the PS2/PSP-era games a little off-putting, especially since it skips from the Big Boss stuff to MGS2. The Shadow Moses incident everyone refers to in MGS2? The first Metal Gear Solid game that is actually one of the mose important games of the nineties? It's not even *in* the collection! Unfathomable to me.
The Big Boss games (Snake Eater and all the PSP stuff) should be on one disc with Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions. Getting the original MGS and its VR missions as downloadable content from the PSN store is really hokey (I'm not even going to talk about the opportunity to re-create the experience of looking at the Metal Gear Solid box art to advance the game!)
Lastly, MGS4 was slightly flawed from a technical standpoint. You can't just package that game like vanilla ice cream and say "done". It has that full install option now, yes, but I feel like that game especially needs to optimised...ideally with a new engine (which will never happen), but preferably just get that game running without frame drops in the hectic areas in Act 1.
Anywho, find the original copies of this stuff, it's better than a lame booklet. DLC and 2 discs of straight ports.
