Not every "brutally hard" difficulty mode is well-designed. I don't have much of an issue with European Extreme since I know the mechanics intimately, but I can recognize it isn't the most fun and balanced experience. Still, though, most people don't play on European Extreme, basing your argument around a single optional difficulty mode is a bit unfair.
So you're telling me that if you play this on the difficulty on which stealth actually matters, the gameplay is a chore.
But then if you play this on any difficulty that's lower, the stealth mechanics have as much depth as the stealth in an Uncharted game. On anything less than EE, the core of the gameplay is running inside lockers and waiting for a timer to go down which , maybe, just maybe, might make this a bad stealth game.
So pick your poison, either a difficult chore or a mild snooze. End result; Bad Game.
I can’t believe how much this held up. This was my favorite game as like an 11 year old kid and I thought it was the coolest shit imaginable. As I got older, I just sort of accepted it was actually probably just over the top/goofy/exposition heavy silly shit. Actually playing it again as an adult and I realize this is over the top/goofy/exposition heavy/silly shit that is the coolest shit imaginable.
Only clicked on a second playthrough. But this shit rules. Definitely more of an espionage game than a stealth game. Slaps way harder when you go in expecting a game with a lot of great set piece moments and infiltration stuff, rather than the kind of open ended exploration and stealth of MGS1

That is the law, I do not make it, I simply extol it.
