Mercenary

I appreciate the very ambitious world-building and all the work they put into enacting an entire wireframe city along with the liberty to fly around it(seriously, flying is really fun and a shout-out to StarFox that's to come out ten years later), but this is just not a good game. The core objective inside it is a boring scavanging hunt, where you're required by a party to enter maze-like hangars, walk down long and empty corridors, pick up items, earn money, so you can buy a spaceship to fly home. You can't die in the game as there are few hostile situations or enemies, and the setpiece buildings in the city are put to minimal use. You can't interract with them or use them for anything, which makes this game a far cry from GTA. And on top of all you're forcing me to fly as least as possible because I need to hunt for some items underground to progress the game!!

Amazing tech demo but its sandbox liberties are redundant.
