What a massive step up from the first game. This might be the most robust RPG on the Game Boy, honestly. Way more life and personality than LB1, more intuitive demon fusion and negotiation, characters with actual character, a handful of moments with some genuine pathos, and one of the most bizarrely grandiose stories I've ever seen from a GB game. That's not to say it's spectacular or anything; the menu navigation wore me down real fast, inventory and demon stock management can get obnoxious, and all the characters really only have one defining personality trait each (except Esau, who is the best character bar none), but just about every component is improved from the first game, and it no longer feels like just an awkward midpoint between MegaTen and Dragon Quest.
