Classic Mario Kart action is back once again, this time in a colorful, lightning-fast game that you can take anywhere. Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Wario, Yoshi and Bowser are all tearing up the track, tossing Koopa Shells and laying banana peels along the way.
For better or for worse the gameplay from this GBA installment is waaay more slippery janky and all around confusing than any other entry in the series. Despite this, I find a certain level of charm in this jank, time trial in this game is easily the most enjoyable Time-Trial in any Mario Kart game out there simply for how fucking screwy weight is in this game. Some characters are too heavy for some tracks to light for other tracks, the lighter you are the tighter your turns the heavier you are the wider your turns etc etc... the planning, pathing, trial and error are what make the Time Trial so fun and rewarding, unfortunately this is not the only part of the game.
Boasting 10 cups, 5 new cups and 5 retro cups, Mario Kart Super Circuit has tons of content to enjoy for its singleplayer mode but I don't think you're ever going to get the same mileage out of Super Curcuits singleplayer than you would out of Double Dash or the DS release. It's wide course selection, but lack of course theme variety, leads to some tracks feeling indistinguishable from each other. Obviously its because of technological limitations on the GBA but DAMNIT if it doesn't make trying to unlock 100% everything a grueling process.
All in all Super Curcuit is a great time killer but it fails to deliver what fans would expect from this title.
