I think I played up to the part where you're supposed to gather a bunch of fuel in a large sprawling level with fewer opportunities for stealth. Maybe I needed to git gud, but hey, I was 16 and playing a game not meant for me, oopsies.
The combination of stealth and shooting (even minor resource management in bullets, painkillers and held weaponry) was enormously influential to later 3rd person shooters like The Last of Us, Uncharted, The Evil Within, later Resident Evil, etc.
Playing on hard difficult without radar is a fun experience - it definitely wasn't designed for that (especially levels at the end) but when tough parts is over it feels like you made through impossible
to me it doesn't get repetitive, the atmosphere and the vibe of the game is awesome and messed up, in a "good" way, but the shooting parts are fucked up, so tedious and stressful which only (maybe) were included because they didn't want to bore the player with the stealth parts, which, ok, fair, BUT maybe do something else(? or make the shooting and those parts better
