Very happy with this remaster of one of my favorite games.
I feel like what makes this trilogy great are these things: Music Storyline Music Cars Music Cultural History Music 3 different eras Music How they are independent games but weave together Music
Also the free ride feature to roam around and do whatever you want with a fun car, fun music, and fun guns. Helps to capture some of the hidden parts of the games after the storyline achievements, etc.

A charming little game if you want to indulge in a mafioso fantasy, but overall a superfluous experience lacking in almost every creative department. An uninteresting system telling an uninteresting story with an uninteresting design. Just boring and formulaic from start to finish.
I give it one star for graphics and style and half a star for the playboy collectables, which are essentially soft porn, but I considered them kind of elegant and funny (yes I am a pig).

Just beat Mafia 2, and its an average game open world game. The best things about it are the presentation and how it portrays the 40's. I really enjoy the soundtrack to the game. It does these things much better than say LA Noire. The story is very predictable to anyone who has watched a scorcese movie, but i guess well written enough.
The gameplay is really where it falls apart. You will do an obscene amount of driving in this game, and bear in mind that the 40's cars have terrible control. Most of the times i failed a mission was due to car crashes since the brakes are so bad. The checkpoint system for the game is also bad since its so inconsistent and often saves before cutscenes or long driving sections. The gunplay is very iffy, with guns having bad accuracy and just not responding well to mouse controls. The missions themselves are a bit samey, just disguised under different contexts. Another big problem is that i simply dont believe that this game should be open world, when there is literally not other sort of activity besides the main missions. Money has no importance in the game since you get more than enough guns for each mission and cars arent really worth investing in. The story also makes you lose all of your cash in several moments.
Its not a bad game, i definitly had some neat moments with it, but not really good enough to reccommend to anyone. It feels like a weak GTA clone set in the 40s, and i dont even like gta all that much. It also feels that the devs were forced to make it an open world game to sell more copies, when in fact this has no benefit at all for being open world. Its strengh lies in its linear narrative, and the stricter you follow it the more enjoyable the game is.
