Lunar: The Silver Star

Lunar: The Silver Star offered a better realized version of Dragon Quest's aesthetics and excelled in charm. Despite the lackluster battle system and uninspired premise, the goofy characters, lighthearted witty humor, and memorable soundtrack helped to convey the sense of a grand adventure. But mostly, its strengths are owed to the hardware, The Sega CD - graphically and performance-wise, brought the quality standard and polish of PC games over to the console generation.

Highly regarded RPG for the Sega Cd, although I personally felt it was fairly generic. Story is boilerplate JRPG stuff with our hero Alex deciding to become a adventurer who on his journey discovers an evil wizard is trying to take over the world.The wizard is kidnapping local girls in hopes of finding a goddess hidden amongst humans and kidnaps our hero's girlfriend, so Alex teams up with a group of other concerned citizens and defeats the wizard. I've seen fans of the game praise the romance element of the plot, however it's actually barely in the game. Your girlfriend Luna is in your party for the first hour of the game then leaves, after this she is basically out of sight and out of mind. Even when she gets kidnapped, it's like princess peach in the Mario games, just a goal to achieve. Aside from the story, I've seen a lot of people praise the music in the game, and outside the battle theme and the first dungeon theme the music sounds like something you'd hear on the tv show Zoboomafoo. Overall feels a bit generic.
