Lost Odyssey

this game is a hidden gem. had four discs in the box.

funny little story: there seemed to be an issue where, for some people, the fourth disc couldn't load up. imagine playing a 4-disc game to get so far only for the last disc to give you a read error. my friend had this very issue. he read online about a player who boiled their disc in hot water which solved the issue. sounded absolutely insane to me, but my friend was desperate so he tried it and it absolutely worked.

My copy also had the issue with disc 4. I could not get past the sequence of cutscenes at the start of the disc because the game would either freeze on a loading screen or give a "disc is unreadable" error. Apparently, it happens because the fourth disc was packaged in a cheap white sleeve which could leave a thin layer of residue on the disc's surface.

I tried cleaning it with a dry microfibre cloth, a warm damp cloth, and scrubbing it under hot running water - none of these methods fixed it. With nothing to lose, I got a big pot of water boiling on the stove, grabbed the disc with a pair of tongs and dipped it in a few times, holding for 5-10 seconds each rep. After the disc dried, I put in back in my 360 and completed the game without ever seeing another freeze or error.

Mine also had a problem with disc 4. Rather than boiling it or anything crazy, I took it back to the shop and they replaced it :)

Anyway, this is a fantastic game.

one of the greatest JRPGs ever

deserves to be ported to modern platforms, what an excellent game.

I honestly don't see what's so great about this game, besides the visuals and the visual novel stuff.
