A colossal case of deja vu, Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded revisits BBS' skill rotation/upgrade system, 358/2 Days' skill panels (if reworked, heavily reminiscent of FFX's sphere grid), and past KH levels (again). The minor gameplay tweaks somehow increased the degree of mashing this time. Even the experiments feel a little too familiar overall, although their brief take on turn based SMRPG-esque combat was a fun little detour. Simple platforming challenges and forward-scrolling rail shooter segments marked an odd return to KH1 - if heavily out of context.
The plot is by far the series' worst yet, even more pointless than the other portable titles. While their portable catalogue's narratives at least could've been more suitable for shorter doses, Re:Coded was especially useless. This game only matters to KH devotees hellbent on experiencing the story for themselves, and there are much better authors out there.
