This is a game I have more respect for than I love, mainly because I love its concept as you play as a boy who gains powers based on what costume he's wearing. The problem is that it has OVER 100 LEVELS!!!!!!!!
While I'm sure plenty have experienced everything this game has to offer, I haven't as I often find myself skipping levels by finding the bonus levels which allows you to warp to a later level in the game. Normally I'm against a game cutting content, however this has the complete opposite problem as there just far too much content here to comprehend. Thankfully when I'm not thinking about what I'm potentially missing out on during a playthrough, I'm enjoying myself whenever I play this game as in addition to the powers being diverse and interesting, the levels themselves are usually well constructed, often taking into consideration the desired powers needed to complete the stages as certain powers can restrict what our hero can do with his move set. The controls here are excellent which is impressive considering how they usually have to factor in all the different powers that our hero potentially takes on throughout the game. I also appreciate that the developers didn't make him too much of a product of the 90s like most mascot platformers of the day, they easily could've as he sort of looks like a child version of duke nukum or even an edgy version of commander keen. Thankfully that's the full extent of his personality as he doesn't talk in game or have dialogue text that feels ripped out of an snl sketch of the day.
If there's a remake if this game that cuts out some of the levels, then I'll declare that the definitive versions as apart from its tedious level count, this is a true highlight from the genesis library.
