Title
Jumpman has amazingly tight and codified conventions that mark every good platformer, but GODDAMN is it filled with bullshit rules and arbitrary mechanical decisions.

A simple thing such as falling off a ledge one-space-high instantly kills you, and never mind that if you overclimb(!!) a ladder you also fall to your death, but in the latter levels it gives you an agonising trial-and-error type of gameplay and puzzle levels, which, if done incorrectly, not only strip you of a life, but also DO NOT reset the level, meaning it's incredibly easy to lock yourself in an unwinnable scenario... where the only choice is to get a game over or reset.

And it's such a shame because the controls feel so right, while the game itself plays so wrong.
