Genki's Jade Cocoon delivered a less cosmic and more natural, spiritual form of JRPG. A simple dungeon crawler with equally straightforward combat, its main highlight is found in its Megami Tensei (monster fusion) and Pokemon (method of monster capture, 1v1 battles, emphasis on elemental weakness, etc.) influences. Whereas these inspirations are as such, the clear Studio Ghibli artstyle influence is also even direct, due to the contributions of Katsuya Kondō in character design. Some confusing environments and sluggish gameplay pacing somewhat hamper the experience - even still, it packs enough identity and variety in its short length to stand apart.
