I Am Alive

The atmosphere is suitably pervasive and the graphics, while a tiny bit crappy, suit the game well and made it stand out even in the era of grey. But of all the survivalist games I've played, I Am Alive is among the easiest to game, the most systematic, the one with the most obvious skeleton. Every encounter can be boiled down to the same rules and only those who fumble around will have an inconsistent inventory, in their favour or otherwise. Whatever surprises the promo material aimed to hide cannot be found here.

This feels like a very poor version of The Last of Us. Its set in an end of the world setting, and you try to help victims by giving them supplies and killing bandits. It plays like a typical third person shooter for the most part.

I liked the survival aspect of it, meaning that you only have very few bullets at a time and you always try to spare using them. Some design choices like the lock on aim and dumb AI kinda ruin the gameplay. The game features lots of dull platforming section in similar style to uncharted, and these are really annoying and the source of most of my deaths while playing the game.

Visually the game has very little colours, and is mostly grey. I get that its because of the dust storms, but it just hurts the eyes looking at it.

The game is very short, about 4-5 hours long. Kinda disappointed with this one, not only because it was bad but because they had a couple of good ideas going for it that they didnt manage to get the most out of it.
