Room 215 is a great visual novel, but unfotunatly has some big flaws that prevent it from reaching the level danganronpa and Ace Attorney.
You play as an ex cop turned saleman, who checks into a hotel in order to find certain items for a client. Things soon start to get interesting as you learn more of the other hosts, and soon put your badge on. Its a well written game, featuring both a serious dark noir tone, as well as some more comedic moments to lighten things up. ´ Unfortunatly, the game doesnt do a good effort in wrapping up all of its plot lines, which really falls that the developers were trying to leave things open for a potential sequel.
Gameplaywise there are some dialogue options that you must be wary off, or they will result in a game over. There are also some puzzles spread around through the adventure, but these feel more like barriers as they arent all that satisfying to solve.
It features a very unique art style, with monochrome hand drawn visuals that are pretty expressive. The music on the other hand i found too intrusive and repetitive, and i soon turned it off to play some of my choosing.
Overal its a very solid game, with a memorable plotline and characters. Feels like some stuff was a bit off when it comes to the actual gameplay department and clearing some of the plotholes.

The level of style and atmosphere in Hotel Dusk is undeniable, with the 70s setting feeling less pastiche and more genuine with its enforced limitations, such as the pager which paces the story well. That story is not without its cool twists and turns, but the chapter-based progression underlines its big problem of having to develop every character within the hotel, every character feeding you their life story and eventually making every connection feel contrived. The puzzles also run the gamut of cool uses of the DS hardware to either gimmicky or unfair. Still, worth a play overall.
