Maybe this was good once? But jeeeez, is this mechanically well behind its peers. Lethargic pace, distant atmosphere, repeated level design and inflexible mechanics make for a poor stealth game, with the only moderately fun option locked behind rather awful shooting mechanics. At least they actually get the game moving along!

However, I don't like how they treated the story in this game. I think they tried to make it feel like a cinematic, story-driven game (possibly with some inspiration from across the Baltic Sea), but without committing to actually develop a complex and polished story (or sacrificing the game's pacing to put more emphasis on storytelling).
Vittorio's kidnapping is basically a McGuffin that isn't even mentioned in the middle part of the game. And Mr. 17 gets introduced out of nowhere, appears briefly three times, and then dies. Maybe they decided that a Hitman game has to have a battle against another clone at the end? Kinda like classic Resident Evil games that always had to have a Tyrant encounter of some kind.
Yeah, they also completely forgot about their own secret puppet master behind the scenes. To think about it.., even most of hitman fans keep forgetting about him, which is funny. Blood Money had an underdeveloped story too, but it was based around 47's unlikeness at least and had somewhat of a good intrigue to keep it going.
Great in its day, but agreed it has dated. Things move at a snails pace, but if you had the pleasure of playing this in 2002 it was a treat. Not a lot of games would launch in 2022 with 21 levels spanning the globe.
I am kinda in-between if this is advantage or not. With this game it's more of not. Always hated the weird sewer paths and spy-alike levels unfit for Hitman, a couple of them feel like project I.G.I. locations.
Definitely needs a remaster at this point. Incredible game but not really accessible to newer players due to the brutal mechanics and learning curve if you're going for Silent Assassin on all levels
