Ultimately pretty fun game, but what frustrates me is that you can't set it down for a while and pick it back up. I feel like playing in either standard or wild requires you to keep up with the meta, which requires a long card collecting process. I also play MTG irl so whenever I have the itch I just go play some commander with friends. Also the longer these games go on (Magic is just as guilty), the more bloated the cardpool gets and the less interesting each individual set is. I'd say if you're trying out TCGs for the first time, still start here; MTG Arena is not your friend.

I could understand this low of a rating if we wanna hate on blizzard, which is totally valid, and obviously this game has had its fair share of damage done to it with microtransactions and just poor balance updates. But I still think hearthstone is an amazing card game, I think especially in the modern day it will be hard to get into just because of how much you will have to catch up with the modern hearthstone player's collection, but I think it is worth the effort. With how the actual game plays I think it is easily the most fun card game I have ever played, the mechanics, keywords and card designs are all super unique and incredibly fun to use, and they work very well in a very fluid and easy to understand set of rules. Graphic's wise it is very charming and fun to look at, whether you refer to the general bright atmosphere, the card animations, the card artwork, or the numerous different maps you are able to interact with in game. I also think when it comes to side content and other gamemodes this is absolutely fire as well. Battlegrounds is the main attraction nowadays, as its basically just a whole new game packaged into this one, and it makes up for honestly half the playerbase now. Tavern brawl has always been super fun as well, but they have been getting lazy when it comes to new tavern brawl ideas, and half the time when I log in it is on another rotation of the challenge tavern brawls which are never fun. Arena is always a little bit a fun. And finally the story mode is also extremely fun, and while I don't think its worth the extra price, it is still fun to try out if you get the oppurtunity.
Idk man, get this score up, this game is a classic. I just wish blizzard was better.

My very first CCG, and not a great one in retrospect. Its foundations, the presentation etc. were all rock solid, but the balancing, man, the balancing was just not there, and a chronic slowness to fix or tone down broken cards defeated a lot of the point/advantage of being an online CCG.
It was definitely enjoyable while it lasted, and I'm glad I picked this game up, beginning my love for card games, but I'm also happy for getting off the Hearthstone ride when I did.
(For reference, I started around mid-2015 and quit around mid-2017, its been a while and perhaps the game radically changed, I haven't seen much evidence to prove otherwise - honestly if I returned to an online card game, it would be Legends of Runeterra)

As a former CCG enthusiast and Dominion nut, I was pretty excited to play me some card games. Hearthstone is a neat variant on the Magic: The Gathering formula, taking advantage of the computer medium to make some cards that make use of RNGs and other effects you can't replicate well with real cards. The presentation of the game is top-notch; it looks great, it plays fast, and there's little ambiguity about what's going on, which is something that a lot of computer board game implementations struggle with. I stopped playing Hearthstone because I wasn't interested in pursuing it competitively and I also didn't want to spend money getting good cards. One thing I dislike about games like this is that it taunts you by being free then requires you to pay bank if you want to compete. The nice thing about games like Dominion is that the same cards are available to everyone anyway. In short, if you enjoy CCGs, Hearthstone is a neat game to try. There's a reason it's been so successful.

What made me quit for good was getting rekt by expensive and OP decks that you, your grandma and EVERYONE WITH HALF A BRAIN knew it would get nerfed, but only in a few months. And that happened every expansion. Still, Arena was constantly fun, and creating obscure decks to keep opponents confused was nice.
