Title
“God of War II” brings the formula of the first two games to Play Station 3 with minor variations but with a much more epic sense of scale. There is really nothing we haven't already seen in the previous games, but the graphic upgrades, the fluidity of the gameplay, and the epic boss fights are enough to make it the pinnacle of the series before the soft-reboot in 2018. It’s almost a boss rush with a bunch of puzzles in between, but the pleasure of slaying all Greek gods one after another is just tempting to resist. All the weird puzzles and frustrating platformer sections have been highly improved, but on the other hand, they will hardly offer any challenge. The first boss fight with Poseidon right at the beginning of the game was enough to make me proud of having a Play Station 3 in my living room.

The plot has never been the strongest point of the franchise, and this game makes no exception. It picks up from the cliffhanger of “God of War II” and continues the same revenge story with no major surprises.

Solidifica o aprimoramento do anterior.

Much more than hack and Slash
This game is epic. I'm big on graphics, and this was the best it can get at the time. But as far I'm concerned, this game got absolutely everything right. The story progression and the arc of the character, Kratos, the way the music is incorporated depending on what is going on at the time, the controls, it's all on point. This is one of a handful of games that I consider flawless and would play again in a heartbeat.

More like God Of FUN
This is not only the first God Of War game I've ever played, it's also the first of this type of this 3d brawler I have ever played. And its the bar is set pretty fucking high as I dive into this genre.

I never got to play it on the PS3 so I was skeptical going into it expecting the standard "remaster" upgrade of a last-generation game, seeing how beautiful this entire game is blew my mind. Every level of this game was so memorable and made you really get to know each of the pieces of map they lay out these set pieces in.

The game play is fast and the weapons they roll out for you throughout the game reward different styles of play and the patterns of the enemies always kept me aware, and I didn't fall into the mindlessness of something like a Shadows of War falls into and why I really tend to avoid brawlers. I played though on Hard and some of the end game bosses took me 3-4 hours to complete making me try different strategies just to figure out how to win then I had to master dodges, parrying, and combos.

While I haven't played the earlier entries this story as a stand alone experience was trash, I get it was a standard revenge story but Kratos sucks and somehow everyone around him manages to suck more. Zeus is the most boring end boss of all time and the only drive of the game was the challenge to win, but it seriously dragged in the third half and I constantly felt like walls where being put up in front of me to stop me from reaching the end. Also the flying sections were some of the most miserable sequences of any game ever.

Despite that, I can't wait to check out the first two games and everything this genre has to hold. This is seriously one of the most fun games I've ever played is a must play on the PS4.

Title
Damn the Gods
Kratos returns for the third main story chapter in the God of War franchise, now with updated tech and a bigger budget than ever. Featuring more gods and titans to slaughter, a revamped magic and weapon system, and some of the most outrageous set pieces to date, God of War III follows up the extraordinary second installment in a truly worthy fashion. It's the same hack and slash gameplay that you're familiar with, but with a level of polish that overtakes its predecessors.

Most of what you get in God of War III isn't surprising. You might mythical beasts by chaining together combos and magic abilities just like in the past installments. That's not to say it doesn't change anything up, however. Instead of the traditional magic and subweapon system, where everything is separated, God of War III fuses each magic spell to each weapon. They're not really treated as subweapons anymore, either. The four weapons that you have are fully fleshed out, with their own unique movesets and advantages and disadvantages. Most of them are chain-based swords like the classic blades you start with, but still handle very differently. The huge advantage to tethering each spell to each weapon is that you no longer fall under the conundrum of having to upgrade weapons and spells individually. For me, this generally resulted in highly upgraded weapons, but weak spells, since spells are used more sparingly.

A new mechanic is also introduced in the item system. Now, utilities that don't really fall under magic or weapons use their own unique resource which regenerated automatically. This means using a bow no longer wastes precious mana reserves, and you can utilize it along with your other items a little more liberally. Quick time events make a return, as is expected, but with a few new queues to keep you on your toes. They're also revamped so the face buttons are displayed in each cardinal direction they represent. This makes it a little easier to react on the fly. Still, if you're not a fan of quick time events, it won't do anything to win you over. If you're the kind of person who needs a game packed with extras, this game does include the same gameplay altering costumes, bonus play, and challenge modes that the previous games included. The replayability is there, should you choose to indulge.

The actual world design is right up there with God of War II. Whether you're fighting inside a titan, travelling through the core of the Earth, or navigating the monolithic labyrinth, the memorable destinations will almost assuredly at some point leave you grinning. This goes along with the games excellent pacing. Previous titles at times left you feeling some intense combat fatigue, just waiting for the endless onslaughts to be over. God of War III does not have this problem, and leaves a comfortable, perfectly timed cushion of platforming and puzzle solving in between nearly every major encounter. The violence has been amped up as well, with some downright cringe inducing and exceptionally creative executions.

Continuing tradition, the story is just as enticing as it has to be. Most plot points and twists are delivered fairly heavy handed. However, for a game of this nature, that's not a bad thing. Leaving too much to the imagination would honestly feel out of place with the heavy hitting nature of the rest of the game. The animated cutscenes are absolutely gorgeous and the art style chosen holds up incredibly well. The ending of the game actually gets remarkably artsy, as well, without spoiling anything. Kratos remains the same anti-hero as always, usually giving you almost no reason to root for him. But that helps give the game character and a solid identity.

As a complete package, God of War III stands up with the titans of the hack and slash genre. There was never a point where I felt bored, or wanted to put it down. It draws you in and keeps you in its grip until you're finished. That, to me, is always the mark of a well made game. There are still the same issues that all the previous games have, but at this point, you shouldn't be surprised by any of them. Every type of game will have its signature quirks, and pure perfection would be a difficult thing to achieve. In the end, though, it's a must-play for the PS3. Just make sure to play the preceding titles first, as the story does chain together pretty closely.

Nothing here has ANY weight to it in terms of combos or combat. Nothing you do in the story matters in the absolute slightest.
There is no emphasis whatsoever on the things Kratos does after murdering the Gods that makes me feel as if the Earth is truly within peril.
All GOW3 boils down to is: a long one leveled tech demo to show off the ‘mass’ of the game and its ‘super amazing’ in game cutscenes.

Thank FUCK this series actually went somewhere

Did you even watch the cutscenes? Watching the world get flooded after the sea levels rise, the sun getting blocked out and locusts swarming the earth after you defeat a boss is fantastic; it's more atmospheric and immersive than literally every open-world and "atmosphere" focused video game. It feels like a rhapsody in Video Game form.

Yeah the game and combat are mindlessly easy but that's not the point, mowing everything down is cool and it's mostly fun for the insane campy grotesque spectacle of it

GOW 1, 2, 2018 and Ragnarok, on higher difficulties, are all actually pretty fucking hard. This is the one outlier where every game mode is really easy. I don't know why. Probably because this was the early 2010s where gaming was at its absolute worst when it came to streamlining old franchises for broader appeal. But it made for it in spectacle.
