Geometry Dash

This is a game without limits. The level editor is one of the best I've ever seen in any video game, and it enabled an ever-growing community to surpass the expectations of everyone time and time again. Geometry Dash levels are such a unique and special art form to me.
Despite the many performance issues and bugs, it's never enough to make anyone quit. People will be more likely to stop playing after losing and raging or after beating all the main levels. That's only where the fun starts, though. User levels are the core, soul and heart of the game. Challenges for the most skilled, artworks for the artists, technical wonders for the coders. Geometry Dash brings together many drastically different communities and makes them seem like it's only one, and I think that's beautiful.

I really don't think any game has affected my life as much as this one has. Got me into art, got me into Electronic Music, got me into making music, ect ect..... I'd be a very different person if I never played this game in Middle School.
That being said, the game itself is *okay*. The graphics aren't anything to go crazy for, but some people in the community are LEGITIMATELY talented and have some serious design skills. Someone who sticks out in my memory was Serponge, who i believe has actually gone into Game-Design outside of GD. Gameplay is tight and concise, it's a one button game sure, but inputs can get so ridiculously precise it's pretty impressive still. The skill ceiling is also probably unmatched by any other game in this style. High level gameplay on GD is so intense I've never really seen replicated in any other game. The main appeal of this game was always the community in my opinion. Despite being a NOTORIOUSLY annoying and young fanbase, I actually have a lot of really fond memories and genuine freinds from that time of my life.
All of that being said, I'm speaking about this through extremely rose-tinted glasses. I do still play this game to this day, but I do not still interact with the community so I cannot speak for the last ~4 years of changes I missed

Been playing for years. The game is simple, fun, and able to be picked up and enjoyed by anyone. That being said, the skill ceiling is among the highest I've seen in any game. The community is also very active and continues and host events, create innovative and difficult levels, and manage leaderboards.

Worst part of this game is lack of consistent support and updates from the developer and it also suffers from horrible optimization.

2700 hours in, 20 extremes under my belt, i think i can say i've completed this one.

yeah, community can kinda suck sometimes, and the game's permanently screwing up too many people's music taste, but it was a foundational part of my life. i can't give it a negative score for that alone.

game itself: it's a really addicting sidescroller that is easy to learn but hard to master. it's simple enough for anyone to grasp what's going on, but incredibly challenging. deaths are quick and without punishment, and levels are quite short, so you want to go in for more and finish off the level. it's a pretty smart gameplay loop.

the largest issue is that the game is held together with some of the worst spaghetti code i've ever seen in any game. in most situations, you won't notice it. but once you start getting into harder levels, or start playing stuff with over 70-80k objects, the lack of optimization begins to show hard. hitboxes are messed up as well.

as a game, it's fine. as a lifestyle choice, don't. please.

ive probably beaten all of the main levels countless times. i mostly just grind extreme demons these days. great game. the community can be great. but most of the time it really isnt.

dawg i just cant connect with the community lmao. people on this game are either the most cynical people you've ever met, unfunny, or just flat out a pedophile, or a combination of the three. wont give it a 0.5 or 1.0 because I still had good memories with this game when playing with friends
