One of the worst things about this piece of shit is having to warn your friends who haven't played FF7 but are curious about it not to play the "remake" first because it's actually a heckin clever meta sequel
as someone who loves the original and has never, and prolly will never play this game, it severely turns me off how fans of this game seem incapable of acknowledging criticism of it beyond writing off anyone who dislikes it as an elitist or a purist who only hates it cause it's 'different.' virtually everyone who dislikes this game is just a fan of the original who is rightfully disappointed by the circumstances surrounding it. how it fucks with the original story with the, at best, unnecessary new plot elements. how square enix lied about it being a faithful remake. how square is completely uninterested in giving this game the proper remake fans have wanted for years. everything i read about this game's story reads like bad fanfiction. i know there will be people who get mad at me over this especially since i said i haven't played it and insist that i have no right to complain, but at the end of the day i just like rpgs, i like them for their storytelling. especially the snes to ps2 era for their tendency to have good, cohesive and well-paced storytelling. turning a great 45 hour ps1 game into three 30-40 hour modern AAA games doesn't excite me, even putting aside the specifics of this game. games are already too big and overbudgeted and this game in particular worries me with the kind of precedent it could have on the industry as a whole. you're more than welcome to say "slippery slope" but that was always the argument against anything that AAA games have inherited over the years. the industry clearly isn't above it, and square enix certainly aren't 'one of the good ones'

I'm about to propose a strange idea: how about you try playing the game before forming strong opinions?
"everything I read about the story" like what? Dude FFVII vanilla reads like fanfiction when written as a synopsis. You don't have to like it, but I have never ever ever understood people who have such strong opinions on shit they haven't experienced and really only have 2nd and 3rd hand experience with.
yeaaaa, as mixed as i am on this game maybe try playing it first before shitting on it. also ur comment on fans of the game can be applied to literally every popular video game in existence lol
not exactly the bosses (altho i do dislike how damage spongey the bosses got) but just all the mob encounters. i remember being forced to do almost all of them even if I rlly didn't want to. the game feels like it was made by control freaks.
You can definitely just run past enemies to flee, and avoid them in the overworld though. There are a handful of story related encounters like bosses and stuff but Midgar's linearity I guess makes things feel more like encounters are placed. But that's not the same as scripted
Yeah i swear people are looking at the original through nostalgia goggles because that plot was insanity bordering on nonsense, but in a fun way. Remake was written by the same guy who wrote the original, why would you be shocked more insane stuff is happening in the plot. The glue that holds FFVII together is the characters anyways, which imo are even better in the Remake series than the original.
Can someone with a brain for websites like this please add Intermission as its own page? The above link shows it can clearly be purchased separately and thus should have one. I haven't even played it but it's been bugging me for months.
I thought I’d be bored of this game (and Rebirth) once the main story was over but I really grew to love Yuffie’s combat, more than Cloud or any of the other characters surprisingly

you cannot be serious prefacing a paragraph of criticism with this
