Decent little Resident Evil clone I still come back to every now and then. Has pretty good area design and excellent use of audio design and visuals (or lack thereof) and paced very tight so it never feels like it drags and stays tense throughout your adventure through the Himuro Mansion.
Has lots of backtracking through the same areas you've run through before along with pretty bad voice work and the main girl you play as could maybe put more pep in her step when trying to run but if you have a day or two for a competent survival horror you wouldn't pick wrong giving the original Fatal Frame a try.

Fatal Frame is a game series I've heard rave things about for a long time, being a horror game fan since I played the Resident Evil games back in high school. I was never able to get Fatal Frame because it was kind of a rarity and after I got rid of our old PS3 with backwards compatibility I never thought I'd touch this. Well many years later this came on PSN and I picked it up. And well to be honest, it has a cool concept, fending off ghosts with a camera while not being able to defend yourself. The game has a creepy atmosphere and an eerie story. On the other hand, the game does get a bit redundant and the game sort of plays off the single concept. But to be honest, of the 3 main Fatal Frames, I actually found this one to be the scariest and the location in this just felt terrifying. Sure the sequels would improve the gameplay and add more locations, but in a way this one does its job the best.

That part around the 3rd half where you have to fight a ghost monk like 4 times in a row almost made me quit the game. But beyond that is actually a pretty good game, kinda repetitive though. I am excited to play the other ones now.
lol I just found out that Columbia Pictures tried to sue Tecmo for "ripping off" Ghostbusters since the main character of the game is technically "bustin' ghosts". Next level corporate idiocy right there.
Ok, now that I've replayed it (twice in a row, good news) I can say that it gets way better once you have a clue of what's happening in the story and it becomes easier to understand. The gameplay is also more fun after unlocking everything and your camera becomes superstrong, to the point where it's possible to one-shot ghosts here and there. I can say that I like this better now than before but still the weakest of the PS2 trilogy.
I enjoyed it overall but had three main issues. The controls are sloppy, climbing stairs was a chore. The health items were unproportionally littered in the Nights. The last night had a tonne of items, didn't in fact use any of them at all, but Night 3 was a constant cycle of taking one hit and resetting. Otherwise good story, pretty damn scary and great music.
