The gungeon has become a paradox with many gunegoneers "killing" their pasts. As a result, the gungeon is collapsing. You play as one of several gungeoneers attempting to escape, albeit with an ever changing run and a out-of-control elevator.
Dissapointing, to say the least. If you have an apple arcade subscription, get it on there.
Enter The Gungeon is often considered as one of the primary Roguelites that many modern ones are now based on. When Dodge roll announced a sequel, i was hyped. I watched many trailers for the game, analyzing the gameplay.
The gameplay is pretty mid, as there is no randomly generated rooms. Instead, you're trapped in an elevator the whole time, making occasional stops to go to shops, play minigames with Winchester or Manservantes. In a sense, this doesn't really make it a roguelike as roguelikes have a sense of freedom, you can choose which rooms you want to go and what path you want to take.
The boss fights aren't that creative and can mainly be dodged by simply rolling in the corner. You can buy hats and skins for your character, but they do nothing.
Each character has a unique elevator layout, putting some at a disadvantage than others, such as hunter. Once you beat them in their layouts, it becomes available for you to unlock.
Although they say that "no two attempts are the same", the layouts really feel like it is because the majority of the time you're just in the same elevator.
Unlike the last game, there is no synergies. Synergies were a huge part of ETG as you could experiment with what works for you.
Your gun constantly changes to make up for the lack of synergies and combinations and sometimes the guns can be so bad to the point where they're run ending like Kolibri. At least in ETG you had a choice whether or not to pick it up, this time you don't.
The lack of endgame content is what sets this apart as mid, though. Once you get each character out of the gungeon, Although the glocktopus is a hard boss, you don't really get a reward and theres always a secret trick to fighting each of the bosses. Once you've beaten the glocktopus, theres nothing more to do.
Overall, it did not meet my expectations. I feel let down by this game and i don't know why.

Pretty fun spin-off that offers a fun new way to play Gungeon, but becomes a bit embarassingly easy once you realize you can just spam jump endlessly to dodge all incoming attacks.
