E.T. The Extra Terrestrial

Its not that bad of a game everyone has make it out to be. Its only confusing because many people don't know what to do. This is why manuals are important and you should read it. Many people cry out that it was a game that crashed the video game market in North America...thats not true; that is just everyones favorite scapegoat masquerade as fact. It was poor marketing decisions that killed the gaming industry since at the time there where no approval boards and it was a market where it was just pure anarchy that even Purina can develop and release games on Atari. Even competing console company like Coleco can intentionally sabotage their competitors consoles by releasing inferior versions of Donkey Kong and purposely make their console (Colecovision) the best version. Anyway, this isn't "the worst game ever made" it is a rush job of the game...but not the worst of all time. I feel like a game like this was a bit too big for its britches at its time plus it didn't help that Atari's sense of corporate greed and not having a strong grasp of the marketplace is what made the game ever so infamous for being a bad game.

With that said, I do think its a game everyone should play for historical purposes. Because of all things considered the story of the game is quiet fascinating.

Its a terrible game, you know that from the moment the terrible menu music starts. You control ET and must go around very similar looking levels in search for broken parts in order to build something to go home. And then there are a lot of pitfalls everywhere and scientists that run after you. You get some woods to walk around in, but the controls are terrible. ET keeps falling into the pits and you wont even know why. Everything from a audiovisual standpoint is bad as well, even for the atari era. Though it is not the worst game ever made as far as im concerned, it is a terrible game and one that disappointed way too many people.
