Dustforce is a 2D platformer with crisp precision and silky smooth controls. Best efficiency and speed is rewarded with an "S" ranking and additional levels, of which unlocking is the main objective of the game. Graphics are clean and sufficient, while music is ambient and hypnotic.
Later levels are difficult, and players are expected to grind to complete them, which may frustrate some, but the difficulty progression is well paced, and no levels feels out of place.
A plethora of user submitted levels is also present, and many of these are also excellent, though admittedly, motivation to finish these levels can be more difficult, since mostly top tier players participate in the rankings of these levels.
Dustforce is excellent, and I recommend you try it. Its controls are satisfying, and good execution is very rewarding. The game is hard and many attempts can be expected towards the latter levels, but the game is always fair, and soothing to play due to good atmosphere.

Controls take time to get used to but it's great once you get it. It's a great challenge for players of platform fighters and other speedrun-focused games.
Art looks fantastic, soundtrack speaks for itself.
The vanilla game is great, but Dustmod is a must once you feel like you've seen everything. There's dozens of hubs housing original community content with custom scripting. Includes cooperative multiplayer maps you can speedrun, funky physics, weird stuff like pong and MSpaint, and extremely polished maps with original sprite/sound work.
Also I met my partner for life through Dustforce's community, which is nice.

If this game had proper analog controller input it may very well be the single greatest 2d platformer of all time. As it stands its just too awkward to play to reach that point.

real shit tho this game is definitely not for everyone but if you like mastering a game's core mechanics and fluid movement with loads of depth, this could well be your favorite platformer ever. after 2250 hours, i can confidently say it's not perfect, but it's easily my favorite game ever.

I really, really tried to like this game. The concept is pretty cool, actually. I love that it focuses more on flow than speed (as long as you don't lose you combo, you'll get an SS score) and most levels are fun and clever. But then you get to the hardest levels in the game only to realise how clunky and unresponsive the controls can be. For levels that require such control precision, the movement is just too janky. You'll end up losing becase you got stuck to the wrong wall, or somehow the dash button didn't respond on time. It's great, but it really needs better controls. Also, the presentation feels... unifinished? Just an example: it took me a while to figure out different characters have different abilities, which make some levels easier. There's no explanation for that at all. It's like the devs totally missed importance of menus and the user interface. Still, it's a fine game. I don't think I'll get SS for all levels anytime soon, though.
Or use a controller with a proper d-pad....

and yes, i also disliked the parts that asked for precision in the case of landing on small platforms, but you get better.
