Drakengard II was a much more restrained affair. Realized without Yoko Taro, much of the surreal magic of the original is gone, leaving behind a rather incompetent action-rpg. In comparison to their first effort, the story feels awfully conventional, despite a few bizarre, disturbing detours in the proudest JRPG tradition. Several new combat options and QOL fixes improve both ground and air battles, but the mission design makes gameplay horribly tedious. If their goal was a musou that's less mindlessly empowering and more annoying, they succeeded.
