Doom

This is an excellent follow-up to the original two iconic Doom games. It perfectly maintains the spirit of those games, with a Satanic sci-fi setting, fast-paced gameplay, no reloading, no regenerating health, buckets of gore, and a soundtrack ranging from atmospheric electronica to pounding metal. Yet it doesn't feel like a straight-up remake. The experience is modernized, but only to an appropriate amount.

One little nitpick though; in the console version, the UI is scaled too tiny for TVs (mine is 32-inch and it can still sometimes be a little hard to see), and there's no way to change it that I'm aware of.

I'll admit that I was initially put off with the change in direction this game has for the doom franchise, I guess you can say this was due to me getting used to what doom 3 has achieved over a decade prior. Once this game won me over, it quickly became one of my favourite not just in the franchise but of all time.

This basically abandons any pretence that it's a horror game, that's not to say nothing about it is scary, rather it doesn't actively try to scare the player like the previous instalments do as it's far more action oriented than even the classic titles. All of the monsters retain their classic designs with the notable exception of the hell Knight which uses its doom 3 design (to distinguish itself from the barons of hell) there aren't many new monsters to fight as there are more former human factions to deal with this time around. The story is practically non-existent which is normally an issue for modern games, however this gets away with it due to our hero being completely dismissive of the events unfolding meaning its clunky storytelling is by design. That's not to say there isn't any lore in this game as every item/creature you come across has its own entry in your database for those who want lore in their titles. The real star of the show is of course the gameplay, specifically how it feels like an 80s action flick as you can "glory kill" enemies by ripping their heads off or by cutting off their limbs with your accessories. There are some platforming elements here, another nod to doom 3 as that game also allowed our hero to jump, however they're few and far between as the focus is on taking out the enemies on screen. There are also tons of secrets to find including collectibles, access to hidden areas which unlock classic maps for multiplayer and even runes to spice up the gameplay that require you to complete a trial in order to achieve. You can also upgrade your weapons by finding robots that will modify your weapons, these modifications come with their own challenges to give you something else to do within gameplay.

There's a ton more I can talk about, but I'll leave it at this being the perfect reboot of a beloved franchise. Check it out if you haven't already.

This game fucks. It kicks ass and serves cunt and whatever vulgar collection of words I can come up with. It's non-stop demon killing action. It's a ton of fun. And it's also a fantastic Switch port too! I remember seeing this run on the Switch back in 2017 and I immediately was like "Yes! This thing is not underpowered at all!" Just a stellar game. Wish the online wasn't deader than Reagan.

Pra definir em uma palavra, alucinante. Acho que nunca fiquei tão louco de adrenalina com um jogo. E isso se deve ao level design impecável, arsenal lotado de armas excelentes, inimigos extremamente fortes que se equilibram durante o combate e a trilha-sonora espetacular.

Talvez isso mude com o tempo, mas não consigo encontrar um único grande defeito nesse jogo.
