Donkey Kong for Game Boy is really a great game, and one of the best on the original Game Boy. Mechanically, it's a relatively straightforward 2D puzzle platformer with a wealth of tricky situations to overcome. It contains a huge amount of levels (close to 100!) that are all consistently satisfying and rarely if ever feel too frustrating or tedious. The gameplay is truly the perfect marriage between the puzzle and platform genres, because not only do you have to be fast at pulling off intricate acrobatic moves in the later levels, you also have to sit, think, and puzzle out how to solve each level to start with. The game introduces new elements every hour or so in a rather seamless way. Lastly, one of the most impressive things about the game is its smooth and natural difficulty curve. It starts out fairly easily, ramps up to a moderate challenge level quickly and continues to get harder until the end without going overboard. It's no wonder this game has developed a bit of a cult following since its original release - if you're looking to experience the best of the original Game Boy, you can't go wrong with DK '94.
