If you look past the conventional reasons for slamming this DK, consider just how intense this game gets in multiplayer matches. Like seriously, having the 2P option to me seems like the only viable intent the game developers had in mind when publishing this (third) sequel. Only the goals have changed, while the same hectic rushing to get the necessary numbers and symbols before your opposing player does keeps you jostling in what is an unconventional DK game.

People hate this one because it does not place emphasis on action, but, let me tell you, if you don't think there's action in this one, find a pal to show him pettilly how much he sucks at hardcore blitz-math.

Fair enough, I am clearly not the target audience for this, but isn't there something slightly ridiculous about the fact that this even exists at all? Had this been, say, a BBC Micro game, then I could just about have understood it - those are machines that existed in a lot of schools. But the NES? What school had a NES? So the implication is that kids were meant to play this at home in their spare time - but that surely can't be the case, because if that were true the developers would have at least tried to make it fun. And hell, even if this did make it into schools, it would have been useless, considering that anybody with big enough hands to hold a NES controller was probably already too good at maths to benefit from being taught that 9+1=10. It's impossible not to be cynical about it, really; given how little care, imagination, and intelligence went into its execution, I can only think of this as either a lazy quota-filler pushed into existence by a Nintendo director demanding an educational title for their portfolio, or as a cynical attempt to get some easy sales from parents. It was probably both. Regardless, the sums are so ridiculously easy that it fails as education and the mechanics are so ridiculously boring that it fails as entertainment; for a company with a track record for understanding both its audience and children in general that is as otherwise spotless as Nintendo's, it's especially embarrassing.
