I have fond memories of playing the original "Diablo II" at my friend's house in elementary school, as my parents wouldn't buy me the game. We would replay act one over and over again, and we'd always get stuck in act two. Years later, I got my hands on "Diablo III" on PS3, but it quickly lost its luster for me. It just felt like it wasn’t worth the limited time I had to play on consoles. However, when I saw this “Diablo II” remake available for Switch, I knew I had to give it a chance.
Even though I don’t think I got any of the plot, the gameplay loop is so addictively simple that I started from killing time with it to desperately finding time to play with it.
While the graphics are vastly improved, the tiny character models make it difficult to fully appreciate the visual overhaul on mobile consoles. Despite that, I still enjoyed playing as a Necromancer (as usual). Even though I had to spam potions in the late chapters, I found the game to be relatively easy to complete, with the exception of Baal and Duriel.
The game's mechanics and progression system have aged well, and the new quality-of-life features make it more accessible to newcomers.

I'd played this a bit as a kid, but never got far into it. It's been fun revisiting it and getting into it. The remaster looks really nice.
Some of the stages can be annoying as the random generator can sometimes mean you'll walking around the same level for ages before your finally find the exit.

It will be interesting to see if this game, close to its vanilla form, gets remastered at some point; Starcraft doesn't look too bad in 2018 I don't think DIablo 2 will look that bad either.
As for the game itself: another pointless, time-wasting, item grind of a game, but its visual cues are very satisfying.

I find it weird that this is so much higher rated than the borderlands games, despite them both being well acclaimed outside of this site, and basically being for the same type of player.
idk if I would say they're for the same type of player. I find the combat in diablo a lot more satisfying than borderlands personally, and I know people who really like diablo 2 but hate borderlands so even though they're both loot collectors, it's not really the same.
specifically just the scaling and item sharing but mainly the scaling. we played on normal the entire game but most of the enemies were either a. WAY too tanky to the point where levelling was such a fucking chore or b. some bosses/mobs would just delete us instantly… and the exp wasn’t really rewarding whatsoever, especially considering how tanky most of the enemies felt but regardless, the skills were really fun to use and the game is beautiful and very, very unique. but the gameplay experience would sometimes just get ruined by the enemy scaling.
Wow, I played it in my childhood and it was so cool back then. I understand why the game was so popular in 2000s, but now it feels monotonous and even a boring clicker. There are much better RPGs for sure. Music is gorgeous even today though.
finished Act 1 with two friends, tbh I was really let down by this game after coming off the back at Diablo 1. the original game had a solid sense of tension, and satisfaction from finding a cool piece of loot, but in Diablo 2 everything just dies in a second and explodes in loot, making loot into a chore and the gameplay into mindless tedium
if the game is just more of that then I have to wonder where the appeal of this game lies at all
