Actually a pretty good "remake". I expected Isaac to bog down the experience by yapping too much and stating the obvious, but weirdly Isaac turned out to be a more compelling personality than either Hammond or Daniels. They're strangely more stilted and aloof here compared to the original.
This goes for generally all interactions with them. (And certain unrelated horror sequences too). But this is best exemplified after their first encounter with a horrific necromorph; in the original Daniels was pacing back and forth - clearly and understandably stressed - and was a lot more emotive with their delivery. Even Hammond who was trying to play it cool had trouble recollecting himself because of the tense situation.
Meanwhile in the remake they act as if this is just an inconvenience or something and never once show any distress. Only Isaac seems to register the severity of the situation.
As a long time fan of the original game, I simultaneously appreciated but was also dissapointed by how closely they recreated the OG. I loved revisiting this setting with prettier graphics, but the first game still hasn't really aged, and I feel like a remake should have taken this opportunity to change up the story more.
This game owns. Incredible art direction, intense score, threatening monsters, it’s all here. Not really all that scary, maybe I manned up since I played Doom 3, but it is nerve wracking. I kinda wish the pc port was stutter free but take it in stride and you will have a blast
