Darkest Dungeon

SCORE: 10 (masterpiece) darkest dungeon is a beautifully punishing experience that has incredible art design, sound design, and music, combined with one of the most addictive gameplay loops i have ever experienced. the progression is expertly crafted and rewarding, and the locations are unique and intriguing to explore. stress is a fantastic mechanic that adds another layer of challenge and reward to the gameplay, and the narrators booming voice can both excite and cause quivering anxiety. overall it is an incredibly difficult game to put down, because one more dungeon surely cannot cause any major issues that will take hours to fix. right?

dungeon was too dark in my opinion.

This is an excellent adventure for both fans of RPGs and the works of Lovecraft and Poe. The game manages to capture the essence of its inspirations not through stereotypical horror, but through storytelling and atmosphere. This game is rather difficult, that much is given, but don't mistake it for unfair (well, usually). The game requires the learning of all its core mechanics, but once you've got them figured out (doesn't take long if you put your mind to it), the game is both fun and rewarding. Loads of excellent lore, storytelling, character, set, and enemy designs, and fights in general. Even as someone who has a love/hate relationship with turn based RPGs, this one feels worth playing because of how different and unique the experience feels. The game has great and unique boss fights too, which is always a treat. Great game.

Turn based roguelike where your party of four adventure dungeons of increasingly high difficulty. Love the visual art and setting, as well as the voice acting by the narrator. The gameplay is excellent for the most part, offering the sort of clutch moments that XCOM is known for, except in higher quantities since everything can turn sour at the last moment. Decent amount of loot and character personalization. It has some issues when it comes to its difficulty and RNG, but this is a roguelike afterall.

It can be arugued that its biggest flaw is the amount of grinding that it takes to get a party suitable enough to tackle a boss, and even then there are no sure wins. They have recently added a short adventure mode, that should make reaching the end quickier, but i never tried it. That said, even if i never beat it, it was a grand time it offered me to search the haunted dungeons.
