    it is not even funny how much this DLC shits on the Grave of Saints->Gutter->Gulch path in the DS2 base game. if you replaced that path outright with Shulva I think many opinions on DS2 would be changed

    Cave of the Dead sucks so hard it's unreal, because Shulva and Dragon Sanctum are much more engaging than the base game.

      Still reckon this DLC had the most interesting ideas for level design of all the DS2 DLCs. What altertide0 reductively calls "gimmicks" are actually novel ideas for challenge, not just for this game, but the whole series. The platforming sections were actually the best before Elden Ring came along and the sections with the ghost soldiers was also a cool idea, but as is usual with DS2 in general it isn't always best implemented.

      Also for what it's worth, Sinh actually isn't that bad of a dragon fight for the series, so long he isn't constantly flying.

    Some of the gimmicks were a bit annoying, especially the invincible ghosts, but overall very fun to explore with very enjoyable bosses.
