Title
This wasn't as bad as I was expecting; it's pretty poor, but far from abhorrent. The controls are decent and the guns feel good to use, and there's some ambition in the game's minor RPG elements and attempt at storytelling. Unfortunately, the latter is harmed by jerky cutscenes and laughable animation. The graphics are drab, brown and blurry, whilst the frame rate is reasonable provided you keep the game in low-res mode. The AI is worth a mention--it's so bad that many enemies are almost harmless. Perhaps my biggest issue with the game is its increasingly annoying level design, which will have you often either getting lost, or dying and having to start all over again.

    Companions are a regular annoyance even with the 1.3 patch. I can understand why this game was so hated if it was originally even worse than this. The minor amount of help they provide in combat isn't worth having them slow you down all the god damn time with AI that can barely grasp how doors and ladders work.

      In his (very enjoyable) book Romero talks about being presented the ad by the guy who was handling Ion Storm's marketing. Romero told the guy he wouldn't say this outside of deathmatching and the ad makes him sound like an asshole.

      Marketing Guy's response:
      "Don't be a pussy."

      Somehow that convinced Romero to go ahead w/ the ad.

    the first hour of gameplay is like the angelic 2 the core of FPS games but then it gets sort of better for it not to be one of the worst games of all time. still trash though lol
