Aku Aku and Uka Uka seek to resolve their feud via a contest between teams who battle in their stead, as the brothers are forbidden from fighting each other directly.
I know on a technical level, this game is lucky to get a 4/5, however I'm a sucker for this game partially due to how many hours of my childhood it took from me but mostly because aside from the main campaign being hard as hell, it's a ton of fun especially when playing with a friend.
I'll only talk about the adventure mode as the other modes are just parts of the adventure mode grouped together based on their gameplay mechanics that support up to four players. The adventure mode can be tackled either solo or with a friend, this of course changes some of the individual games as single player means it's every man for himself whilst multiplayer has you teaming up to defeat your opponents. Right off the bat I can tell you where this games difficulty comes in as far as single player is concerned as starting with the third warp room, the Ai tends to gang up on you meaning it's essentially three to one which makes playing the adventure mode in multiplayer essential as the odds are more evenly balanced out. There are downsides to multiplayer mode as well, however they're mostly in the crystal challenges since you can both loose should one of you screw up in these challenges (i.e. one of you touches a poisonous mushroom or is blown up by a bomb.) Either way, these crystal challenges are brutal due to how much of an unfair advantage they give your opponents, although there's an immense satisfaction of beating them which I'm told is the same feeling dark souls players get for overcoming those games trials and tribulations. The gems are also a challenge since you have to defeat your opponents in a limited amount of time or with their score being much higher than yours, although it's not as egregious as the crystals or relics where the latter has you facing off against tough Ai and needing to defeat twice or thrice consecutively depending on if it’s a gold or platinum relic. The bosses are also really hard, although again there's an immense satisfaction for taking them out due to how much of a genuine fight they each put up.
This is essentially my dark souls in that I'll defend it to my grave even though most will tell you it's crap due to its brutal difficulty. I don't think it's possible to get everything in the adventure mode, my personal best is 180% (back when games went over 100%) which is a true accomplishment in my life. Also, this is the game that spawned the YOU FAIL meme, that alone deserves everyone’s respect.

I remember getting this game for Christmas one year, its funny because it was in a box with clothes from my aunt so I thought I'd just be getting clothes from her that year. And I was pleasantly surprised to see a Crash game. I was a huge Crash fan and knew this wasn't like a typical Crash game, it was a series of mini games. As a kid, I definitely didn't like this as much as the other Crash games, but I did play this a good amount, and occasionally would play it with friends. It did have a few somewhat fun games, but yeah its overall pretty generic and forgettable and has a pretty bland plot. As much nostalgia as I have for this game, and the 100 or so hours I probably put into this game as a kid, I can't defend a mediocre game, especially a mediocre Crash game.

^ yeah, I'm not sure if I had grown up on Mario Party I'd like this as much as I do. Honestly the best Crash games are the non traditional ones like this and CTR.
gotta play ctr, but i think you may be right. as far as i remember twinsanity was one hell of a banger too. replayed the first game recently and i was very disappointed. it's revolutionary for it's time sure but it was not very fun to play and the save system sucked
