I don't know how much more I enjoy the actual play experience of this compared to Contra and Super C. It's easily on par with them, but I don't know if the technical leaps result in substantially better gameplay (though the technical leaps are DAMN impressive). There are also more individual moments that I find particularly frustrating here than in the originals. That said, I don't think I've ever played a game that's packed this tightly with memorable moments. Literally the entire game is just jumping from one impressive set-piece to another, with the only deviations from the core gameplay being the two overhead stages. I've only played this game a couple of times, but I bet I could recount how the entire game plays out beat-for-beat, level-by-level. That's a hell of an accomplishment.
