Celeste has such a big status now that it's hard not to criticize it (being ranked in the top 100 of all time and all), but taking all that out and you have a pretty good game with some nice level design. The game only has 3 moves (jump, dash and hold) but yet the developers manage to make all these complex levels where you will fully use all your possibilities with these movements. The game is hard and it's intended that you will die hundreds of times, but you do respawn very close by all the time so it's not frustrating to the point you have to re-do the entire level all together. The rooms are all very challenging, and you must go with trial and error until you figure out the moves and all the right timings to get things right. There's a high sense of satisfaction when you succeed and room, and that's pretty much the fun of the game. Platformers aren't exactly my favorite genre in this era, but I quite enjoyed this one but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece or anything. It does well what it's trying to do and it seems to have gathered quite a fanbase in the process. I completed the regular part of the game, but I'm not quite the type that will got for the hyper challeging B-Sides (game was already enough challenge for me) or collecting all the strawberries, but I'm sure that appeals to many players. Overall good game!

this is the type of game i should love. I've tried playing this about 3 times because it looks and sounds beautiful but i always fall off around world 3.
Just got to the point in Farewell where you have to backtrack and get all the hearts... I haven't been this disappointed in a game in a long time. The hearts aren't even fun to find.
My opinion of the game nosedived when I got to this point in Farewell. The wavedash doesn't feel very good and I just don't think it's fun to spend nearly an hour on a single screen without seeing anything new. Like I guess it's commendable that they pushed the limits of a solid-feeling engine, but I can't deny that it just wasn't fun.
One of the best designed platformers in recent memory with a totally unneccessary stupid story. Why does Madeline need to fight an le evil version of herself? Is she an angry video game reviewer from the 2010s?
got this when I first got a switch a year ago (after not having been into video games for about 25 years), and it was way too fn hard. Cut to a year later, I've completed every single Mario game, VVVVVV, Love, Cave Story, Hollow Knight - and now I'm ready to play this on assist mode.
