Pros: + More HD Mario means more of that juicy, stylized 3D World art. Colors pop, great lighting, strong consistency between worlds because of cohesive enemy aesthetics. + The "Mario universe on shuffle" pacing of 3D World is purified even further through a rapid-fire assortment of small diorama levels. + Those coming from 3D World will appreciate how enemies and mechanics from that game, which could easily be jumped on or ran around, now pose significant threats to movement because of your inability to jump. + Small thing, but I appreciate the perspective shift to Toadette, especially when she and the Captain start going bar for bar in Volume 3. It turns it from a pretty boring rescue-the-girl plot into something much more whole. + Really fucking good soundtrack, as is par for all Mario-related titles these days. Razzle Dazzle Slider and Ghost Gallery Gambit are just fantastic. ++ Fun puzzle-platform gameplay with difficult levels that aren't too complex. The way mechanics are introduced and then amplified and combined is nothing short of amazing, and feels right in sync with the 3D World philosophy as well. ++ Unbelievably good use of perspective. You might be able to physically see every secret in a stage from the beginning, yet still have to think of ways to get to them. ++ Really clever boss design allows for added tension and difficulty without actually straying from the core gameplay loop. The dragon bosses in particular were great because they allowed you to plan in advance, but only act in short 5-second bites.
Cons: - Storybook-styled presentation is charming, but seems a bit rushed. - Heavy use of the touch-screen for later puzzles made my head hurt, because I couldn't play the game on the larger TV display. - Gear-levers were annoying because they forced the camera perspective to whatever they control, even if just walking by them. This made the second dragon encounter more difficult than it needed to be. - Pretty standard difficulty curve, but the bonus stages jumped up to a level I wasn't comfortable with even having just completed Volume 3. - The "Mummy-Me" stages, similar to the shadow Mario levels from Galaxy 1 and 2, don't belong here. In a game experimenting with the problem solving of restricted movement, any mechanic involving a "chase" should have been immediately discarded. Not sure what they were thinking.

fucking hated the touch based puzzles but the rest of the game was p good. i think my biggest overall problem is the game feels really slow paced in comparison to most mario games
probably the way perspective shifting changes what you can see and therefore interact with. it could have been a slight influence, but definitely not a ripoff from what i can tell.
Finished the boss on Level 10 and was like "wow, what a neat little game!" And then chapter 2 started. And I looked up how many levels there were... yeah, I don't think I can stick with this
